Seminário de Sociologia: “Eurocentrismo e (Anti)-Racismo: Teorias, Sociedades e Política(s)”

Tendo em consideração quer a longa duração dos processos coloniais, quer as especificidades dos debates e controvérsias actuais que têm marcado as abordagens e intervenções políticas desenvolvidas nesses espaços, tentaremos estabelecer uma reflexão mais aprofundada sobre as interacções do (anti-)racismo com culturas políticas públicas. As experiências republicanas (democráticas e ditatoriais) em contextos europeus e latino-americanos são consideradas na sua tensão intrínseca entre a produção de ideias e práticas liberais de cidadania e a reconfiguração de hierarquias etno-raciais excludentes. Os discursos e práticas políticas contemporâneos incorporam a tensão entre concepções historicistas do racismo (i.e. o racismo como um fenómeno do passado, de certa forma superado, com pouca relevância para compreender o presente) e uma certa consciência de que as práticas, discursos e estruturas racistas não foram ultrapassadas. Se as políticas públicas têm enveredado por uma abordagem cada vez mais “cirúrgica” e despolitizada, em consonância com uma concepção liberal de cidadania, numa altura em que vivemos um tempo de racismos sem racismo, são necessárias ferramentas teóricas e metodológicas cada vez mais complexas. Neste sentido, consideramos como premente a necessidade de produzir reflexões mais críticas e contextualizadas sobre (anti-)racismo, que dialoguem com a historicidade dos conceitos e lutas a eles associados. Para tal, este seminário explora as inter-relações entre racismo e cidadania a partir de dois eixos fundamentais: 1) racismo, colonialismo e identidade nacional; 2) sociedade civil, instituições e lutas políticas.
